Last year I picked up my Toro during an open house at my local dealer.
Everyone who came got a bag filled with assorted promotional items from various manufacturers. In it was a cheapo ball cap from Toro which happened to fit me very well. I later contacted Toro to ask if I could purchase another like it (hard time finding hats that fit), and their response was that they would be happy to send me a few at no charge. Cool.
The ones they sent were different (and of much better quality), but they did fit.

I wore one of them to the point where it changed colors from the sweat (eewww!!!) and sunlight. I kept the other handy for going to give estimates so I wouldn't look like a slob. :D
Now I was down to one hat the "dirty" one is about to hit the trash can - what to do - what to do?

I recently sent emails to Toro, Stihl, and Echo, politely inquiring about the possibility of acquiring a promotional item such as a hat or T-shirt.
I won't post word for word what I sent, but I explained that I was pleased with their equipment, looking into the purchase of more of their equipment, and that I'd be happy to promote their product.

All three answered promptly.
Today a package arrived from Toro with 2 hats - same as last year, but in "grey" (I think) instead of deep brown like last year.
The guy at Stihl sent me a pdf with all their hats and told me to choose the hat I wanted. I expected to get whatever they sent - thought that was nice of them to give me a choice. It should arrive tomorrow.
Echo said they would be sending "promotional items". I guess I'll see what I get when it arrives.

I'll post pics of my lawn swag and U bitchez will B H8tin!

:D :D :D

the only thing I have ever gotten as a free "promotional" product was from exmark. It was like 30 stickers, all being different sizes and logos they have. I thought it was pretty cool.

I'm looking forward to seeing what they sent you!

How did you go about in contacting them? Like through a link on their websites?

Yes. I just looked for the "contact us" link.

I tried to do the same with Husqvarna, but apparently they don't want to communicate with anyone, as all links led to a "contact your local dealer" page.

I just contacted a bunch of dealers and just heard back from Echo and they will be sending me something (not sure yet, but excited). But this is what SCAG said when I contacted them "Thank you for contacting Scag. We appreciate your interest in and support of Scag products. To purchase Scag merchandise, please visit the Scag Wearables page of our website: http://www.scag.com/wearables.html - Thank you"

Thought that was funny

Stihl emailed me back saying visit a dealer to purchase merchandise. When I did visit dealers last year I spend $1400 on equipment. Now I'm suppose to pony up $20 for a hat to promote you? no thanks, I can buy a hat with my logo for cheaper.

I totally agree with you but I am still going to buy their product because (in my opinion) they make the best commercial lawn mowers. It sucks though because I bet if they knew that I have three of their mowers they would have immediately gave me promotional product. But its their loss

Eh. Could be anything from how you worded your inquiry, to what kind of day the person on the other end was having.

Sucks that you got the "go buy one" reply - I was preparing myself for that from the start, but so far, so good.

My package from Echo arrived today.

One black hat w/white Echo logo.
One grey t-shirt w/Echo logo on chest and huge logo on back.
Unfortunately it's an XL and I wear L. I'll wash the sucker in hot water and dry it for an hour on shrink-mode.

I am supprised that the dealer you go to does not give you a scag hat... I am not one to throw out hats as they are expensive but every customer that has mowers from me gets one or sometimes more to keep them looking nice if they wear it.

I would think they would give one to anyone who purchases..say something over $500 form them. In a way, it is advertising for them.

How did you word yours?

How did you word yours?

Like brand-loyal, a$$-kisser who wasn't blatantly asking for free stuff.

:D

Sorry, but I decided not to post what I sent them.
I'd imagine that a flood of cookie cutter, copycat requests would be noticed and perhaps they'd be less apt to send stuff to people.

I think he is being passed around between Echo ,Toro , Sears , and the vet ,and is probably now wishing he was born smarter instead of just handsome !

Here are the hats I got last year.

The freebie from the open house is on the right. The dark brown one is one of the two that Toro sent me after I inquired about purchasing a hat.

I went to a Toro convention last year, by accident.

I was going to get something fixed, and they had pizza, hats, special promotions going on.

I had a slice of pizza, took 4 hats and a couple of key chains.

Can't find any of that stuff for the life of me now... Probably under the seats of the truck LOL.

Oh well, the hats were black and uncomfortable anyway. Now if only they made socks....

My package from Stihl arrived today.

They sent the hat that I had chosen (nice hat) as well as a new catalog and a strip of Stihl decals. I'll post a pic later.

I stopped by a dealer that isn't really close to me, but since I was in the area, wanted to see what they had.
Nice shop with Exmark and Ferris mowers and ZTRs in the showroom. They're having a "show" this week with factory reps, sale prices, and state police giving a demo on proper trailering, and I may go back for that... you know it - more lawn swag!

PM me an address.
No charge for the hats. Shipping to Canada - $49.99

:D

Hmmm... now that I think about it, and after adding it all up, there's at least $70 (retail) worth of stuff here not including what it would have cost to pay for shipping for each if purchased online.

That's nuts.

Echo swag just got here.

Same shirt and hat as Hedge, plus a nice 6ish inch by 14ish inch sticker that I'll probably end up slapping on the wall in the garage.

free stuff is fun. :D

Now to message exmark maybe i'll get a mower sent to me. ha

I went and bought a new Ferris walk behind today at an open house sale.

After talking to the Ferris rep and later making the purchase, I walked back over and jokingly said "What, I spend five grand on a mower, and I don't even get a hat?" He laughed and said, "I've got some in the truck!"

Add a Ferris hat to the list!

Then the dealer gave me a Ferris t-shirt. :D

I'm not wild about the design on the back. I doubt I'll wear it, as that style of art isn't "me".

Haha!

I used to have two hats. My good hat and my yardwork hat.

I'm losing track of how many I have now. They're everywhere you turn in the Hedgemaster household.

Maybe I should change my name to Swagmaster?

Here's my bundle of goodies from the other day.

The best was this box from Stihl - I nearly crapped when I opened it.

http://i802.photobucket.com/albums/yy309/IntegrityLawnCare/Lawn%20Care/Misc%20Lawn/DSCI0325.jpg

Hat, gloves, protective eyewear, 2 bottles of Ultra oil, and a full spool of trimmer line...

http://i802.photobucket.com/albums/yy309/IntegrityLawnCare/Lawn%20Care/Misc%20Lawn/DSCI0326.jpg

Perfect timing because I needed string and I had a pair of gloves just like those that a dog peed on last week while I was working a job. (no, I wasn't wearing them at the time) Also, that's the oil I use for all my mixing.
Awesome. The shades are useless because I wear... glasses.

More misc. freebies...

Toro T-shirt.

Yet another hat - LOL!
Some trimmer string samples.
Wel-Worth Fuel Fix ethanol treatment (I use this in all my gas)
Starbrite Startron ethanol treatment

:) It is.

I am really impressed that Stihl would give out such a costly package. (Remember, I picked that up at my dealer's open house, I didn't request that)
A hat, or a shirt I would expect, but there's probably $30 worth of stuff in there - all USABLE stuff too.

Side note:
I had to stick a crapload of hooks on the wall in my basement for my growing hat collection. :D

Did your Echo shirt shrink?

I expected mine to since it was free, but it shrank "short" instead of evenly. I put it on and it looked like i had a half shirt on, It fit the shoulders and chest just like it did new, but the bottom shrank up to above my belly button.

I gave it to the wife.

I dunno, I haven't tried it on since washing it. It's an XL and I wear a L, so maybe I'll be OK.
