Can such projects as teaming up with Funk Master Flex and creating a truck with his brand help save Ford?

What's your take?

A New Set of Wheels for Funkmaster Alan (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/08/business/yourmoney/08suits.html) - Alan R. Mulally, the chief executive of Ford, has a big fan in Funkmaster Flex, the hip-hop disc jockey and car aficionado known for his eye-catching car customizing.

The host of “Ride With Funkmaster Flex” on Spike TV, the D.J. was on hand at the New York auto show last week, where he introduced the Ford Expedition Funkmaster Flex Edition, the latest project he has done with Ford. His Navigator, decked out in red and black paint with orange pinstripes, will be sold in limited quantities beginning this fall.

What Flex does addresses is a very expensive niche. You need a very serious pile of money burning a hole in your pocket to afford his customs. The low number of cars he sells has no impact on the bottom line for Ford.

The variation of "race on Sundays, sell on Monday", which is build on Sunday, take a couple of orders on Monday, only lines his pockets, not Ford's.

Maybe the main reason Ford does this is to get media attention. Like you said, I can't see Ford selling too many of these vehicles.

I am sure Flex is happy though ;)
