So I spent 3 hours at a clients place.

Leaf Removal + Lawn Mowing/bagging
Dethatching + Lawn Mowing/bagging


He's all jolly and good spirited, and then he says;
"So what's my price for this year?"

I told him I would have to check his price from last year as I offered him $5/off every month this year for referring my business to 4 people last year.

I was charging him $75/MO last year and I remembered.

I tell him, "Your price is going to be $70/MO".


What does he say to ruin my day?

"I thought I was paying $50/MO last year wasn't I?"

STOP TRYING TO RIP ME OFF GOD DAMMIT!
I've been a kind person, and went the extra mile for this individual every visit - now he's putting on an act trying to get a freebie from me.


I hate this part of business, all the effort in trying to be a friendly guy and BOOM they all start and make an attempt to take advantage of us.

It's ok though, I'm not as patient as last year when it comes to letting things go.... LOL ... he'll get the bill!

Personal Update:



After the job above (or below) lol, I did the following;

Cleaned the interior and bed of my truck, shopvac, & rags baby

Did another spring cleanup

Applied topsoil, fert, and seed

Pressure washed my equipment


........ I'm scattered and it's time for a nap!
I just want to cut grass, all this crap is a pain! LOL

I had a day just like yours today.

I show up for an estimate and a woman with large breasts answers the door.
She then agrees (without hesitation) to the price I quoted for mowing.
She asks about trimming some shrubs. I give her a price and she agrees to that as well.
As I mow the lawn, she comes out onto the deck - now wearing short shorts and high heels.
I bust my a$$ mowing her too-high lawn and when finished, she comes out waving CASH - and there's $5 more than I asked for!
She wants me to come over every week!

Wait. Nevermind. My day was nothing like yours!

Yes I am ready to start mowing as well, The seasonal stuff is strarting to wear me down. And I am sure that there is still at least one goood snowstrom just a round the corner.
Little old ladys are the ones who bust my chops about price around here.

What's the best way to deal with a customer like that who tries to cheat you out of money, especially when you are working hard on is property? How should you handle this?

I have a customer thatís a bit of a slow payer. So far Iíve been lucky, I remain patient and the money eventually shows up. She ended last season ( Nov 10) w/ $25 balance. I received payment sometime in Jan 11.

I think common sense ďon our partĒ will carry us a long way. Most times I know when Iím about to get the short end of the stick. I try to remain professional but not vulnerable.

There are so many variables which we need to consider, I can't think of a solution at the moment. I'd like to hear some!

Scott If it was me, I would have done what you did.

Explain you think it was $75 but youíre not sure. (Itís always a good idea to leave the back door open). Explain you will double check and get back to him.

I think the important point is heís still the customer. He might not except your quote but thank him anyway and discontinue services. Leave on good terms.

Man I have no problem like that at all.
Matter of fact in the last 14 days I have worked a grand Total of10 hours.
We have been having near nonstop rain, I have to problems about getting paid at all No work No pay :D funny how that is.
what a way to start my first season. :mad:
