The rule of 72 is a very helpful mathematical short cut to finding out how long it will take for your investment to double in value.
For instance.
How long would it take for my 100 investment to double with an annual rate of return of 10%?
So I take 72/10 = 7.2 years
That means my $100 with an annual rate of return 10% per year, would become $200 in approximately 7.2 years.
