After months of pleading with my dad, he has finally agreed to do a website for me. He told me to go through and look on different lawn Care sites and find things I like. I have Searched a little bit in the Memphis Area, but now I want to see your sites! It would be great if you could post your websites. Thank You!

My website will corrupt you.

It's not recommended as it's more of a hobby thing lol.

Sure it can advertise my lawn stuff, though I just throw a bunch of crud on it such as animations and drawings created in flash.

The site changes CONSTANTLY on every page. Within this year I must have changed it 100 times.

Cheese: I like your Payment and packages page. I love your animations Very Creative! =)

Hungry Goat: I love the colors of your site!

Mountain View: I really like how you have a lot of information! There is all kinds of info on here! I'll deff. Be thinking more in depth of what mine will say.

Cleaning Doctor: I like your background it's Very lively. I also like how you have tabs for everything to be broke down.

Topnotch: I really like all the information on your site. I love the youtube videos and the Why Use US section

Mark 123: I like your Autumn Leaf removal policy! And I like how you use It as First Person type talking. You use I and I think that will make the customer feel you are talking to them and not the city as a whole.

Growing Green: I like your top picture on your page where the plant is green! It really goes well with the name. Your Service page is very detailed in what the customer will get! I also like your About Section. It really is personal touch to the customer.

Jymie: I like how you have pictures on all your services. Its very uniqe! I like how you have coupons online too! That should help bring customers in .

TNT: I love the background! Also like how you mention family in your about section!

Thanks for all you guys that posted! Your Sites look great! This has really helped me a lot! One more question though Where do you get all your pictures from?

Where do you get all your pictures from?

The best method is to take before and after pictures of all the properties you will do work on. Before estimates, I take pictures of the area that we will be working on, then pictures of the completed work. That is where I get mine. That is a good practice to get into as if for some reason you do the work then there is a problem with payment, you have the before and after work pics to use in court if needed.

I'm not sure I've seen the original so I can't comment on improvements made.

I have a calendar system available on my site as well but much like yours it was empty. I ended up removing it. Do you plan to use the calendar for something business related?

The discount page is a bit convoluted.

I see you remove snow from shrubbery. It usually freezes into a nice hard shell around here. I'd need a chisel and hammer. ;)

Last time blades were sharpened: July 2010  Really?

I did a quick perusal and didn't notice any mention of licensing or insurance.

I noticed some of the text seems to sort of expect customers will cancel you. When you want to cancel, you simply notify me that you wish to discontinue that service, and I will stop. Don't tie yourself to a whipping post.

Hello All.

I've had my web site up for about 10 months now. Have received a few inquires for service but most were out of our service area. Although I feel a web site is an important tool to have if you want to expand your business, I have received more business from my Facebook page than I have from my web site so far. I think it may have something to do with the word-of-mouth advertising theory.

I find that the web site acts like an informative tool for potential clients and is a place they can check out our company for more information. Also to get a feel for some of the services we provide. Thats just my experience so far with the web site. I have a few ideas for making seasonal changes to the front page of the site and am working on building the pages for winter services and then changing it during the spring and summer season.

If you would like to check it out the site is http://northeasternmaintenance.com

Its been a very busy January so far and I hope it continues thriugh the rest of the winter season. Good luck to everyone.

That's interesting because when I pull my site up on my computer and other's it looks nothing like the clips you posted. As far as a work in progress, you don't just make a site and then decide your done. Does my site look like this to anyone else? I've even pulled it up on my phone and it doesn't look like Marks screenshots.

mark123-

thanks for the input. as far as the calender goes, I use it a lot more in the summer. Business is slow for me in the Winter because it doesn't snow a lot here and I only have 2 driveways besides mine.

As far as the shrubbery, I meant to put fragile/delicate in there(thanks for catching that)

I am not licensed or insured. I'm 14. ;)

The reason I put the simply call and cancel is because many doubt my quality since I'm so young. (I don't blame them, many other kids in my neighborhood have tried to start there own Lawn Care because of how well I've done - always fail. the best one has done is someone when their on vacation, I ended up with that account in about a month :) ) so I put that in there so they don't feel obligated with a young boy who MAY be no good. -never gotten any trouble

REALLY APPRECIATE THE CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM.:)

mark123
01-24-2011, 04:15 PM
... I am not licensed or insured. I'm 14. ;) ... I'm 99% sure you still need to be licensed for weed control in OH. I don't know the laws for Ohio but you could be looking at HUGE fines and maybe even prison time. Where are you even getting your herbicides?

Insurance is a must no matter how old you are. Check with your state because your parents could be on the hook if you cause damage.

I'm not trying to be discouraging because I'm glad to see a 14 year old that isn't sitting around getting fat and expecting the world to revolve around him while he plays video games. I just want you to be careful and follow the rules. I'd hate to see you get punished just for trying to make your own way. Get insured and remove the weed control from your services until you can get licensed. Seriously!

brian'slawncare
01-24-2011, 04:27 PM
you do. I am not. I just use ortho home weed defense from home depot. I have not treated any properties yet. Its rather new to me

Insurance- I do not have liability insurance however if I did cause damage for some reason. I do not think they would have to file. They would probably just go through me and bypass insurance. *hopefully* Also, I'm not even a registered business under the state of Ohio. I somewhat think of myself like how a teenage girl babysits for her neighbors. I'm the same just mowing....

mark123
01-24-2011, 04:37 PM
... I just use ortho home weed defense from home depot. I have not treated any properties yet. Its rather new to me ...
Look on the label under "Directions for use". It should say something like "it is a violation of Federal Law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with it's labeling". Using a homeowner grade product in a commercial setting may be such a violation. I'd remove the weed control service from your list of services until you're able to get licensed. You're only asking for trouble.

Looks good. For some reason it is coming out ok on my screen. Not getting same look as Mark is, but I think he uses a different web browser and therefore you have to consider all people using all the different browsers.

If you don't mind sharing, but how much do you charge for holiday decorations? That is something I'm thinking about adding next year. Do you only do Christmas or do you do other holidays? So you not only charge to put up lights outside, but you will go and setup a tree as well or is that just for looks?

Thanks,

If your looking for ideas for your web site you can check mine out at
http://northeasternmaintenance.com

One word of advise, Don't spend a lot of money on your website, I get more referrals from word of mouth, Face Book, and my BNI chapter than I get from my web site. It's nice to have to let potential clients check out your company information and photos of jobs you have done. But I find it does not bring us a lot of business.

What works in one area will not work in another. I have had customers that after achieving #1 ranking the calls did not increase. That means that traditional advertising works better than web advertising in that area.

I would recommend that you do spend the money on the web site as that is a one time expense that will benefit you for years to come.

Looks good. The only thing I would recommend is separate page for each services. It helps with seo.

I never realized what your name meant till I looked at your site. You would make a killing in my area with that name.

I have to say I love the way you included the Army and Airborne logos as well as your pictures in the About us section. I bet you get a lot of positive feedback because of that.

I did sites for each city i wanted to target as well, most of them have ranked pretty well and helped me pick up customers in those other areas.
