It's really interesting to see that they aquired Bass Landscapes. Bass only worked on high end lawns where the big money is.

Cleanup crew (http://www.charleston.net/assets/webPages/departmental/news/Stories.aspx?section=businessreview&tableId=120936&pubDate=12/4/2006) - A Charleston-based landscaping and janitorial services is growing, and possibly cleaning up.

In its latest round of acquisitions, FMI Services Group Inc. has purchased the landscape maintenance unit of Shurburtt Corp. and the sweeping operations of CleanSweep Inc. Both are based in Spartanburg.

FMI also has acquired all the landscape and sweeping operations of Shurburtt Outdoor Services in Charleston, which will be merged into FMI and operate under the new owner's name.

Terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Don Pottieger Jr., FMI's president, said all management personnel will remain in place.

The Shurburtt and CleanSweep acquisitions come on the heels of FMI's June purchase of Bonaire, Ga.-based Bass Custom Landscapes, a $4 million-a-year maintenance and installation landscaping business that targets high-end homeowners.

Founded in 1986 in Frederick, Md., FMI moved its headquarters to Charleston in 2004 after acquiring local landscaping business Good Earth Inc. It now has 1,500 employees and provides janitorial, landscaping and parking-lot maintenance services for more than 1,000 clients in four southeastern states.
