I know this won't count....this is my winter hobby. It is three shop, this is the main one with the tools, one is our turning shop which is attached and another is where we store around five thousand feet of wood.

Ok I will put mine on here. This is my stuff crammed in my garage for the winter.
Pic 1 shows one side of my garage with the trailer with my snow thrower loaded and ready to go and my stihl Kombi system hanging on the wall.

Pic 2 shows the third bay of my garage with my zero turn, JD tractor and my two push mowers. and shelving with crap on it. My bikes are in the picture also but don't count for this thread.

Pic 3 shows my office in my house- my wife's computer has a christmas backgound and my laptop is on the gopher forum. On the wall are my licenses, my first dollar made, lawn care tips and notes and picture of the wife and I.

Should have a prize for the most disorganized storage:)

Once again our season this year ran late and I went from landscaping to woodworking, generally we would have snow by now and yes I would be in trouble as nothing is stored or prepared, the thought is to keep an eye on the weather and if a storm is coming I will spend a day with a couple of staff getting it ready.

That storm may be today, we had serious winds and rain overnight, they are calling this the weather bomb, power is out to thousands of homes due to trees down so I suspect my BB will be going crazy today from clients needing trees cut and chipped. Depending on the jet stream we could get 25cm of snow or just rain, jusry is out I guess.

Anyhow my current set up is two car ports, one is 16 X 20, second is my workshop area for landscaping 16 X 24 and the third is another carport 16 X 26. I have been hauling fill from jobsites for the past two years to an area on my property that will have a 30 X 60 steel building, just no time to get it ready, one of those projects I have to make the time.

So forgive the mess, perhaps by the time this contest is over these areas will be organized....

How do you like the Stihl Kombi system? I was thinking of getting one of those and slowly adding the attachments. Do you feel as that is a good way to start for a newbie?

Matt

The Kombi is an amazing all in one tool and IMHO an excellent investment starting out or even for an established company, ours see hundreds of hours of use, especially the poll pruner attachment, no issues.

I really enjoy it. I think it is the best tool I have. I bought one attachment at a time so now I have a pretty good set up. Yes-best desicion I made in starting out. I did upgrade the head to a bigger motor as I originally had the KM 56 RC-E. I upgraded to the KM 130 R which was probably a bit of over kill. The one below that one is the 110 or 90. Those will probaly do just fine.

So glad to know that! I really appreciate yours and Andy's feedback as I really don't know much about the equipment. I have a Stihl trimmer and blower at this time and love it, but it is old and will need replacing soon. I bought it off Craigslist. I really like the Stihl brand and I have a dealer close to my house. I go there everyonce in a while and dream of running those machines. They also have Cub zero-turns and walk behinds. Is that a good mower brand?

If I'm running the Kombi all day on small to mid-size yards do you think that the 110 or 90 will suffice?

I have one 110 and two 130's, only because we use the chain saw attachment and the driveway sweeper and want the extra power, the guys run these sometimes 7 to 10 hours a day, I have seen two of them (who hole our record) go through 11 tanks of fuel, the 110 gets just as much use as the others.

I may have gone for a 90 however Stihl has these specials all the time, buy a 130 for the price of a 90 (the one 130 almost sounds like a chain saw:)) same with blowers, they had the 600's on for the price of the 500's so I bought three.

Anyhow, it will take you years to wear a 90 out.

I don't understand the power sweeper attachment on the Kombie. Why is such a high powered sweeper needed? Can't you just blow the stuff off with the blower instead of sweeping driveway?

Do you use the blower attachment on the Kombie or do you just buy those seperate? Like you said you bought 3 600's.

Sorry for all the questions. You are saving me a ton of time and money by answering these. Again, I really appreciate it.

Sorry, I should have explained. We do a lot of landscaping, we will blow as much top soil/ turf dressing/multch etc as possible however there is still quite a bit that needs to be swept then sometimes pressure washed.

I do not have the blower attachment, we use our blowers so much for so many jobs we have dedicated back pack units.

One attachment that also receives a tremendous amount of use that came to me in the shop, is the edger, we use it for cutting sod when installing drainage systems and when laying new sod, works great

That same dealer that has all the Stihl products also has a ton of Cub Cadet Commercial mowers (walk-behinds, zero-turns, etc...). Is that a good brand or is Toro better?

Thanks,
Matt

I honestly have no idea, my Stihl dealer is John Deere, if they sold Husky that is probably what I would buy, it's rare that I need service but when I do, any client that is in this business gets top priority, it's great as staff who may pull a cord out can simply stop in and it's fixed on the spot.

There is a Toro dealer in the city but I have never seen their equipment out, I would guess Deere has 85%+ of the market in our city followed by Kubota, I have never seen any other brands driving by properties or on trailers.

Also, for those asking about the Sthil Kombi System, it's worth it to buy - it's one mean machine.
