So, i do a lot of business ads on Craigslist.org. I use it ALOT, during the spring i had an increase in business by 80% thanks to CL. I would like to extend another pointer to you. I dont know HTML but, i do know how to use COPY and PASTE (really well!).

www.use.com is a great site. You can upload a picture (logo if you want) and put all of the information on the template that you would like. You can then copy and paste the provided HTML code. Paste it directly to your ad you want to post and it will show it all.

If you have anything to add to posting on Craigslist, use this post!

Very interesting!

Which kinds of ads on craigslist tend to work best? Ads that focus on low prices, or maybe that have some sort of coupon? Or maybe even just a general ad that promotes lawn care services?

Do you have any ad designs that you have used in the past that you can show us and maybe tell us what you liked or didn't like about them?

When doing ads with html code in craigslist, I am not sure that it would be searchable in results or is it? Do you have to also have a paragraph filled with specific keywords along with the code? I do know that making pictures clickable is a big no no. If you are hosting pics any where on the internet its very simple to post one in an ad. Use the following html code :

< img src="Place the url of your picture between these two quotation marks">

(you will need to remove the space just before img for it to work....

http://daytona.craigslist.org/fgs/2093473951.html That is my latest ad. I did check just now, and it is searchable from the title.

How to make it searchable. At the end of your post after you add the HTML Code, add a "Keyword" section, and put stuff in it like - "Quality, landscaping, land, scaping, lawn maintenance, edging, weed-eating, clean-up, pressure washing, lawn care, zero turn, ZT, wright stander, hustler, dixie chopper" You could do that... ill even make the list and post for you to copy and paste.

I noticed in your craigslist ad, you had a whole bunch of keywords.

Keywords: Lawn care, cutting, trimming, mulching, weedeating, mowing, fertilizing, compost, green, pasture, debris, organizing, removal, tree, grass, plants, flowers, lawn, quality, landscaping, land, scaping, lawn maintenance, edging, weed-eating, clean-up, garage, cleanup

Did that site create them for you or did you ad them after wards?

How important is it to use a bunch of keywords like that in your ad?

Growing Green

I put the keywords in there myself. Don't know if it really helps, but I figured it wouldn't hurt if I put all of the one's I could think of in there. :)

Those are some of the nicest ads I have seen for lawncare on CL. Very profesional looking. I do advertise on CL here and there. It is mostly for my brushcutting service. I have got a few regulars from CL, the only problem is all of the tire kickers. But it is free, which is always good.

Matt,

I noticed you put in some mower brand names in your keyword list, what is your view on why to include them?

Also, when new customers call, do you ask them where they found you and if it is on craigslist, do you ask them what key words they were searching for?

Would it be helpful to have a list of local towns you service in the keywords list too?

MAKLawnCutter
12-09-2010, 09:24 PM
Steve - You can definitely add your cities if you would like. I added the brand names of mowers and equipment just for the fact if someone searches for a professional company, they might look for equipment. I dontk now, lol, just came to mind as i was typing.
My Image - it appears to me, you might need to clear your search history. or cookies or something.

Do you guys that use CL ever have a problem with getting a lot of spam?

I have listed a few items to sell on CL and got a lot of spam and even a virus from one of the emails that was sent to me!!

Just a question I had...

Yes craigslist is like that. Never ever click on a link sent to you from a response from there. Also, do not provide the email address in the ad.

So, i do a lot of business ads on Craigslist.org. I use it ALOT, during the spring i had an increase in business by 80% thanks to CL.

Why do you feel you have been able to increase your business by 80% with craigslist when so many others seem to try it once and get some spam responses, then they never use it again?

What are your thoughts on all that?

MAKLawnCutter

I feel that Craigslist is a great tool if you are looking to use it as an advertising first step, its FREE! I also see it as a good way to network.

My business thrives off of CL calls usually. We are a month from "Spring" and i should be upto 3 contracts before February 1st.

I am going to sleep... i slept lastnight and i was kind of tipsy, the sleep wasnt heavy so, im draggin...

I posted on CL when I was looking to do graphic design work - all I got was spam - lots and LOTS of spam.

Fast forward to the present...
I want to try and use CL for the lawn care business, but I'm afraid to use the e-mail I've created for business purposes (using my business name), for fear of having a never ending stream of CRAP to wade through.

Would it make ANY sense to create a "throwaway" email account (G-mail?) and use that exclusively for CL contacts, or will that make my life more complicated?

Any advise from those who use CL would be appreciated!

Steve

I use an old email address of mine that I have used for years to sign up for stuff, etc... I have been using it in my craigslist add. I click on there where it says not to show my email address, but they can still click on that link and it emails it to me. If it is something that is legit then I copy and paste it into my REAL work email and respond. Kind of a bit of a pain, but still better then getting all that spam into my work account. By the way, I have to constantly check my spam folder on that other email account because if a customer responds to my craigslist add it sends it to there.

Hope this helps,

Matt

Just so I'm clear, do you show/list that "old email address" in your ad, or do they just click the "contact link" (been a while - I forget how it works exactly) so that Craigslist simply forwards their email to you without them ever seeing your email address?

I'd prefer to use my "real" email, as it starts with my business name, but like I said, SO much spam from Craigslist, I hesitate to have anything to do with them and my bus. email.

I've tried craigslist on several occasions n i'm yet to have any good results from it. What could i be doing wrong ? I started my lawn business late into the season last year n only picked up 7 customers. What can i say for as advertisement to get more customers off craigslist ?

Can you tell us why you decided to go with that one? Did you experiment with different pictures or did you just like this one the best?

aduttonater

That was the first pictures I put on the ad. I chose it because it shows a load that I've just prepared for hauling, as well as a smiling hard worker (which is I) holding a thumbs up, enjoying the landscaping life. I think that showing yourself in a picture ahead of time shows ownership and will allow a potential customer to decide faster on if they want to go with your services or find another company.
