Have you ever thought about selling firewood during the winter months? This year may not be a good one to get started if you listen to this article.

Do you know anyone who sells firewood? How do they do?

Area firewood sales cool from red-hot pace of ’05 (http://toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061107/BUSINESS06/61107015/-1/BUSINESS) - As more firewood businesses near the Ohio-Michigan border get required permits, dealing with quarantines related to emerald ash borer may not be hurting firewood businesses as it has in seasons past.

Yet sales are not as brisk as last year’s for some firewood dealers in the region because rising costs prompted them to increase prices; prices have dropped for natural gas and propane used for heating; and more consumers have bought stoves that burn corn, some say.

At Neville Landscape & Tree Service Inc. in Springfield Township, manager Tom Kistner said firewood sales slowed this year after prices were increased by about 10 percent to offset rising fuel and labor costs. A cord of wood from Neville this year costs $245, including delivery.
