Hello

Im looking at a used Ferris 52" Hydro WB that a person has for sale locally. He has two of them and wants $800 each for them. Says he does not know how old they are, guessed them to be 5-6 years old. No hour meters on them. They both start on the 1st pull. Checking if this is a fair price and is there anything I need to look for. Thanks !

First off, read this article on how to inspect a used mower (http://lawnchat.com/?p=640).

Then you gotta ask yourself, how much is a new mower of that type.

How long do you feel this one will last?

To much $$$. For something that old.

They look older than 5 years old to me. There should be a mfg's tag with the serial number and year it was made somewhere on that machine. Personally I don't buy machines without hour meters on them.

I stopped and checked them out...they are 17.5 Kawi's, 52" dual drives. The one I'm looking at has some small surface rust and needs one tire cause it's bald. Otherwise it did start in 1 pull, hydros work fine and runs very good. I'm hoping I can get one for $750. I agree I wish they had a hour meter. I did pull a model # And will check with a local dealer...

What would you suggest offering for them?

I think it's a pretty fair price at $750. I know it will need one tire, which is $30.00. I found a Ferris 48" on Ebay that is burning oil and needs work and the starting bid is $500. Checking local craigslist mowers, they are all at least in the $900-$1000 range.

Thanks for the link on used mowers-I have read it and will use it to go back and check it over again...
