Have you seen the news about HP spying on their employees while attempting to find a person who was leaking information to the media?

What do you think of this situation? Is it ever ok for an employer to spy on their employees and obtain their home phone records?

Dunn resigns from HP, effective immediately (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14957073/) - Hewlett-Packard Co. Chairwoman Patricia Dunn resigned Friday, effective immediately, in the wake of the company’s ill-fated investigation of boardroom media leaks.

Announcing the resignation, HP Chief Executive Mark Hurd called the tactics used by the company’s outside investigators “very disturbing.”

“I extend my sincerest apologies to those journalists who were investigated and to everyone who was impacted,” he said at his first news conference since the scandal erupted Sept. 6.

I am for total privacy and everything, but when it comes to a specific type of business, then I think that it's ok to spy. *Case in point;
