How interesting is this. AOL still has millions of customers but they have the feeling it's a sinking ship. Instead of just waiting for everyone to leave, they are attempting to be proactive and canabalize their customer base to hopefully find some value in them before they go somewhere else.

Do you think this is a good idea? Do you still use aol? What do you think of it? If you got rid of it, why did you?

AOL making more of its services free (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14149039/) - In chase for ad dollars company offers e-mail and software . Stepping up the chase for online advertising dollars, AOL will give away e-mail accounts and software now available only to its paying customers in a strategy shift likely to accelerate the decline in its core Internet access business.

The decision, announced Wednesday by AOL parent Time Warner Inc., removes the few remaining reasons for AOL subscribers to keep paying when they already have high-speed Internet access through a cable or phone company.

This is quite interesting considering the AOL/Time Warner ownership. Seems to me it's win win either way for them, unless the customer choosed DSL.
