I built this for my trailer so the gate would be easier to lift..
I used a garage door spring..

Added a PVC pipe for saftey..

Also have you ever seen any made with a counter weight instead of a spring?

It didnt take a real long time.. Maybe a few hours with tweaking it to my liking..

Parts:
a few links of heavy duty chain
I use rubber coated cable
cable clamps
a eye hook
garage door spring
2 1/2 inch sch 20 PVC<< I think

A welder
hack saw
drill
