Do any of you guys suffer from Carpel Tunnel?

Ive had it for a few years now and it is slowly getting worse..
Right now while im typing, I have to look at the letters to make sure Im typing it correctly because my fingers (except me pinky) are completely numb..

I dont have the pain anymore, but very frequent numbness and soreness while working using my hands..

I sleep with a splint everynight and take 2 naproxens twice a day to help with the inflammation..

It helps to a point, but isnt a cure...

I had both my wrists operated on about 9 years ago which cured it for the most part, the only time it bothers me is if I am using something that vibrates, mainly a sander in the shop. I simply take 600mg of Ibuprofen and that seems to do the trick.

I have used one of those Microsoft keyboards for quite some time and have never had any problems. They are supposed to be helpful.

I have it in both wrists really bad. Anti-vibration gloves don't help anymore and the worst pain is when I use a mouse...makes graphic design really hard. Both my arms up to my elbows fall asleep and the pain sucks. Nothing works anymore.

Last year I did the electrical delay testing at a spe******t... that is where they stick you with needles everywhere...in your hand, forearm and elbow and zap your nerves with electricity) and then measure the time it takes to travel back to ground.

Doc said it was real bad and recommends the surgery and says I'll be back to normal using my hands in 6 weeks...but how can go that long and not work? So I don't know what to do, but I keep dropping things. My passion for landscape maintenance is killing my hands :(

The procedure isn't too bad, I see to recall I was back at it in three to four weeks, today I am fine unless I am pounding or vibration, after about 8 spikes my entire arm feels like you smacked you funny bone really hard. Typing etc. doesn't bother it which I am thankful for.

I dont have those problems..Nothing really hurts, my fingers go numb and feel swollen and stiff..They mostly feel swollen and still when I wake up..If I try to close my hand, in my middle and index fingers it feels like there double jointed...When I sleep, I have to keep my hands down by my sides or they will go numb..If they are facing downward and Im not using them, They feel normal..
While Im working, I have to take many 1 minutes breaks to get the numbness to go away..I do alot of hand shaking and wrists twists during the day..

I dunno...Hopefully someone will come up with a cheap cure..

I had the operation on both wrists about 5 years ago. I wouldn't recommend it! I have no feeling in my left hand except for partial feeling in the little finger and my wrist swells up after using it for any time. Vibration aggravates it.

I also am droping small things all the time. I can sense the weight of larger objects and tend to hold on tighter I guess.
I use the Microsoft Ergonomic keyboard. It really helps. It even increased my typing speed! The problem with it is that you have a real hard time using a conventional keyboard after using it. A laptop is practically unusable.

A cold pack reduces the swelling, but a hot pack reduces the pain.

Yeah I have it in my left.

Though it only really bothers me when I make a fist, or hold something heavier than a feather lol.

I used to drop things uncontrollably. Kinda like getting stung by a bee that implants your wrist with shards of ice.

Things have gotten better though because I adapted with it. If I'm driving I can't put my left hand over the steering wheel without pain. So I use my foot.. kidding... No it sucks.

I hold my trimmer with my right hand & my left hand ring finger.

I used a splint for a long time, but honestly it's done nothing. I think it's different for everyone though.

I know just to never point my knuckles up, which is so easy to do while typing.

What do you feel is the biggest cause of this? How can it best be prevented?

Mine is probably a combination of lawn maintenance and working using a computer for 5 years..

I have been working in an office for the past 12 years. I have never had a problem with this condition except once. Overuse of the keyboard for like 12 hours. The key to avoiding it or dealing with it is frequent breaks. In a typical 8 hour day. I only sat at my pc for an hour tops. I'd get up, get something to drink, take a short 2 min walk around the office. goto the bathroom. Just anything to take a break from using my hands. My home pc has a gel pad below my keyboard for my wrists to rest on. My mouse pad has a gel pad as well to rest my wrist on. I think this helps alot. I hope i never have to deal with it. I know soo many who have gotten it and either had surgery or just deal with it. I just takes precautions now while i am still young to delay from getting it, or avoid it. I have been working at a desk from age 20 to age 32. I am 33 now. Its been about a year since i had an office job but i do use the computer daily for like 5-8 hours a day but as i said before. limit your time to an hour. no more than 2 hours. Give your hands a break. Everything on ur body needs rest after use. good luck to those who have it and/or don't.

Is it the repetition that causes it or does the machine vibration effect it in a worse way?

From what I know, it can happen randomly to any person throughout their lifetime.

Though, this is also something that is caused by strain. Many people who lift weights experience carpal tunnel, it is very unfortunate. Though in the fitness world, equipment has been designed to avoid putting continuous stress on the area. Though the safer alternative doesn't give the user better gains at all, sucks.

A barbell like this, can cause severe strain.


Where as a barbell like this prevents it, at the cost of a good workout.
