So I recently purchased an 05 tt 61" 27hp kohler ~1200hrs, found a good deal, ran good, everything worked when I bought it.

Took it home, washed it, stuck it in the barn. A week later (today) I took it out to mulch some leaves and once engaging the blades, it started to bog down and the motor would cut out. I tried several different things and the motor would simply choke out every time i tried to cut with it. Runs fine unless the deck is engaged and the mower is moving.

Im thinking its something minor, or it wouldnt work at all. maybe a sensor or something with the fuel line?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you engage the blades before buying it and if so, did it run fine then?

Did you engage the blades after washing it, but before storing it?

When you say it chokes out, is it getting too much fuel or not enough fuel? To test this, when it "chokes out", trying partially choking it partially to see if it makes any difference.

The next question is, does it still run, but just has no power? Or does it act as if someone shut the engine off?

If the engine runs worse when you partially choke it, try taking the air filter off and then engaging the blades. Make sure the air filter is clean. If it is clogged that can cause the engine to get too much fuel which is VERY unhealthy for the engine. If the air filter is dirty, replace it, don't try to clean it.

If the engine runs better when you partially choke the engine, find and replace the fuel filter. Make sure to get a fuel filter that is big enough for your specific engine. A new fuel filter, that is too small, is the same as a clogged fuel filter. A clogged fuel filter (or one that is too small for the fuel requirements of the engine) will starve the engine for fuel. To lengthen your fuel filter's life, keep your fuel clean and fresh.

Which brings me to my next question. You mentioned that you washed the mower. When you washed it, did you perhaps get water in the fuel? This could easily happen if you washed the fuel tank, especially the area of the fuel tank around the filler cap.

I did run the blades before storing it but only standing still which it can do now but not while moving.

I beleive it is a lack of fuel being delivered, I fiddled with the choke while trying to quick fix it earlier and it did not save it from dieing.

It will run when the hydros are not being used, once under load it begins to bog and dies within 3 seconds of the initial sputter.

I checked the filter and it is almost brand new. I have not changed the plugs in it however. The water in the fuel is a possibility since i gave it a thurough dousing with the pressure washer. Ill change the plugs, fuel filter, and see where that puts me.

Could it be water in the carb bowl?

Replacing the plugs is a not a bad idea, but is not very likely to be the problem though since it ran fine before hand. I am going to believe that you may have water in the fuel.

Is there a lot of fuel in the tank? if not, and if it is relatively easy to do so, drain the fuel into a container. Then run the engine out of gas. You should be able to put most of the gas back in the tank, but you would have to pour the gas off the "top" of the water. Before putting the gas back in, take the fuel filter off and shake it out (especially out of the inlet side of the filter) and reinstall it. You should be able to blow through this filter relatively easy.

In the same time though, if choking it did not make any difference, it may not be that.

When replacing the spark plugs, make sure you install the correct plugs, don't just go back with what is there without checking to make sure they are the correct plug.

Check into the fuel and the spark plugs and then let me know what you find.
