Does anybody else this? What do you think about, do you like it? How much money do you save? Can you keep your old phone number? Any new equipment needed?

Vonage just went public. Here is an article about it.

I think there are better offers now available through internet service providers.

What other companies would you recommend?

Well, you might get the best deal through your internet service provider. Which company do you go through?

I currently go through SBC (AT&T) for DSL and phone.
Recently I don't care for the service with the internet. It seems like the connection is big time slow, I always have to about once a month report static on the phone line so bad that you can not hear the other person, and because of the whole evesdropping thing lately has kind of made me mad. I also think that I am paying way too much in my opinion. We have two phone lines and interent, and we pay around $130 a month. The other two lines we seriously only make like 20-30 calls a month on them. Most of my calls are done with my cell phone.

Have you considered your local cable company for internet and internet phone access?

with them, it's about $20 more a month for internet. I am paying $29.95 with SBC, and with Charter Communications I would pay $49.95

Has anyone else used internet phone service?
Something I found interesting, especially with cable modem users is when they had intially rolled out this service, the few people who used it loved it. Then as time went on, more and more users got the service which slowed it down for everyone.
Do you know if your phone company offers FIOS in your area?
That is fiber optic.
